Norfolk Dealer Cuffed with Fentanyl & Firearms

NORFOLK, VA – James Edward Sweat, 40, is looking at serious time after a federal jury slammed him with convictions on drug and gun charges yesterday. The bust, which went down back on December 18, 2025, at his Norfolk home, revealed a full-blown operation.

ATF agents, backed by Chesapeake and Norfolk PD, ripped through Sweat’s place and found two firearms – a shotgun and a handgun – along with six magazines, including a high-capacity 100-round drum. But the guns weren’t the half of it. They also seized three drug manufacturing kits, 14.3 grams of crack cocaine, and fentanyl already packaged for street sales. Nine different types of ammunition were also recovered.

Sweat’s history is a long one. He’s a convicted felon with prior convictions for abduction, two counts of robbery, and using a firearm in connection with those felonies. That made possessing the firearms and ammo illegal in the first place.

He’s facing a mandatory minimum of five years, but could get life. Sentencing is slated for July 14th, and the judge will consider federal guidelines before handing down the final punishment. This case is part of the DOJ’s broad “Operation Take Back America,” a push targeting cartels and violent crime.
