Dequan Keontez Chambers, a 32-year-old convicted felon on supervised release, is headed to prison for 47 months after getting caught with a loaded gun in his waistband. The crime went down on July 4, 2022, in Western North Carolina.
Chambers, who had multiple outstanding warrants, was pulled over by law enforcement during a traffic stop. When officers ordered him to exit the vehicle, he refused, leading to a tussle and the discovery of the .40 caliber pistol. The firearm was loaded with nine rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber.
This wasn’t Chambers’ first rodeo with a gun. He’d previously been convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon in 2016. And to make matters worse, he committed this latest crime while still on supervised release for the last one.
U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson wasn’t having it. ‘Everyone deserves a second chance, but not a third,’ he said. ‘We will seek lengthy prison sentences for repeat offenders like Chambers.’
