A brutal rape in Vinita, Oklahoma, left a 16-year-old shaken and scarred. The attack happened on November 30, 2025, when the minor victim was strangled and raped by 37-year-old Garret Lee Monroe, a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming.
Monroe was caught after a fight broke out between him and another man, who had been summoned by the victim. The victim told police that Monroe had threatened to kill her and offered to pay her $500 a week to keep quiet.
A SANE nurse testified that the victim had severe injuries, including bruises and abrasions on her neck and petechiae in her eyes and face. DNA evidence confirmed that the victim’s DNA matched Monroe’s.
A federal jury convicted Monroe of Aggravated Sexual Abuse by Force in Indian Country. He faces life in prison for his heinous crime.
