A Texas man, Dominic Nathanial Torres, 23, traded in his Navy sailor uniform for a prison jumpsuit yesterday, sentenced to 10 years for coercing a minor to engage in sex and seven other minors in Norfolk, Va.
Torres, a U.S. Navy sailor stationed in Norfolk, used social media platforms to target middle and high school girls, pretending to be a minor and bypassing age restrictions.
He convinced a 16-year-old girl to meet in person, picking her up near her home and engaging in sex with her on two separate occasions. Torres even attempted to video their encounters.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigated the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
