In a shocking revelation, Raymond Moon, a 33-year-old resident of Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood, has pleaded guilty to violating federal narcotics laws.
According to the United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung, Moon pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge William S. Stickman on a charge of violating federal narcotics laws.
The defendant is accused of possessing with the intent to distribute 10 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of acetyl fentanyl, 40 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, and quantities of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of heroin and Carfentanil on August 30, 2019.
Judge Stickman scheduled sentencing for September 12, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. The law provides for a minimum sentence of 5 years and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both.
Assistant United States Attorney Yvonne M. Saadi is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The investigation was led by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis plaguing the nation. As authorities continue to crack down on those responsible, it is clear that the fight against opioid trafficking will be a long and arduous one.
