Grimy Times Exclusive: Local Man Busted for Methamphetamine Trafficking

A Wilkes-Barre man has been sentenced to 125 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani for his role in distributing methamphetamine in Luzerne County.

According to court documents, John Derr, 40, of Wilkes-Barre, previously pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine. On July 29, 2021, in Luzerne County, Derr distributed over 50 grams and more of methamphetamine, and was responsible for the distribution of between 200 grams and 350 grams of methamphetamine during the course of the scheme.

The case highlights the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in the region. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive and destructive substance that has devastating effects on individuals and communities.

The matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, the Kingston Police Department, and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney James Buchanan prosecuted the case.
