FAMILY TIES AND MURDER: Texas Man Charged with Murder and Federal Fraud

HOUSTON, TEXAS - In a shocking turn of events, a coordinated effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of a Jordanian national and his family members on multiple charges, including murder.

The suspect, Ali Mahmood-Awad Irsan, 57, a naturalized U.S. Citizen from Jordan, was arrested along with his wife, Shmou Ali Alrawabdeh, 37, a Jordanian national, and daughter, Nadia Irsan, 30, a U.S. citizen, in connection with the murder of Gelareh Bagherzadeh, 30, who was shot on January 15, 2012.

The investigation, which spanned multiple jurisdictions, revealed that the family had been involved in a complex scheme to defraud the U.S. government, including stealing public money and benefits. The family allegedly falsified documents to receive Social Security disability benefits, and Nadia Irsan maintained a bank account with over $150,000 in cash for her father, separate from the benefits received from the Social Security Administration (SSA). The family also purchased several pieces of real estate and vehicles with cash.

The charges against Ali Irsan and his family members include conspiracy to defraud the U.S., theft of public money, and benefits fraud. If convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison and a possible $250,000 fine. Ali Irsan also faces up to life in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted of murder in state district court.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson praised the joint effort between law enforcement agencies, saying, 'This matter is a true testament of everyone's dedication to working together and ensuring those suspected of crimes are properly charged.'

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the consequences of committing crimes.
