Brian Christopher Welch, Child Pornography, Texas 2021
Sherman, Texas – In a disturbing case, a local man has been charged with producing and distributing child pornography. Brian Christopher Welch, 43, was arrested on February 3, 2021, after a federal criminal complaint was filed against him.
Welch, a resident of Sherman, Texas, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his alleged involvement in the production and distribution of child pornography. The indictment alleges that Welch used digital devices to record a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct between December 2016 and August 2020.
The charges against Welch include production of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, and transportation of child pornography, all of which were alleged to have occurred on January 29, 2021. If convicted, Welch faces a minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years in federal prison.
This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative, launched in May 2006, marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller handling the prosecution. Welch is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Parents are urged to use caution in allowing any outsider, including friends and people in positions of trust, to have unsupervised access to their children. The importance of vigilance in protecting children from predators cannot be overstated.
