Las Vegas, NV - Methamphetamine Trafficking Charges Filed Against Two Men
Edgar Marin-Melendrez, 29, and Misael Elias, 22, are facing severe consequences for their alleged involvement in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in Las Vegas.
According to federal authorities, Marin-Melendrez and Elias were apprehended on August 14, 2020 in a parking lot in North Las Vegas while attempting to sell over 60 pounds of methamphetamine. The trunk of their vehicle contained approximately 28,000 grams (62 pounds) of the illicit substance in a suitcase.
The two men are charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. If convicted, they each face a statutory maximum sentence of life in prison and a $10,000,000 fine for each count.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 1, 2020 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cam Ferenbach. Marin-Melendrez, a citizen of Mexico, and Elias, of Bell, California, made their initial appearances in federal court.
The case is the result of an investigation by the DEA. As alleged in the complaint, Marin-Melendrez and Elias met a buyer in the parking lot with the intent to sell the methamphetamine. However, law enforcement apprehended them, thwarting their plans.
