Holly Elkins, Alyssa Burkett Murder, Texas 2024
Holly Ann Elkins, a Rowlett woman, was sentenced to two consecutive life terms for her role in orchestrating the brutal murder of her fiancé's ex-girlfriend, Alyssa Ann Burkett. The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Leigha Simonton, announced the sentencing.
Elkins was convicted of conspiracy to stalk, stalking using a dangerous weapon resulting in death, and brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence in April 2024. She was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle on Thursday. Her former fiancé, Andrew Beard, previously pleaded guilty to stalking using a dangerous weapon resulting in death and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and was sentenced to 43 years in federal prison.
According to evidence presented at trial, Elkins helped plot the Oct. 2, 2020 murder of 24-year-old Alyssa Ann Burkett. The government argued that Elkins repeatedly attempted to call into question Burkett's fitness as a parent and goaded her fiancé into taking her life. The relationship between Elkins and Beard began in early April 2020, and by June, they were shopping for engagement rings.
Elkins began a campaign to harass Burkett in summer 2020, shortly after moving into Beard's home. She and Beard conspired to place a GPS tracker on Burkett's vehicle, and Elkins made a false 911 call claiming Burkett's car was driving erratically. In August 2020, Elkins falsely reported to police that Burkett's mother had attacked her, creating scratches on her own chest to support the lie.
The government argued that Elkins' actions were a result of her desire to have a life with Beard and a mother-child relationship with his daughter. However, when that failed, Elkins goaded Beard into taking Burkett's life, labeling the victim a 'c**t' and a 'dumb b**ch' and a 'garbage s**t mom.'
Elkins' role in the murder was a brutal and senseless act of violence that has left a young daughter without a mother. The U.S. Attorney's office is committed to bringing justice to the victims and their families. In this case, Elkins will spend the rest of her life behind bars, and Beard will serve 43 years in federal prison.
