Jaime Cisneros, Marijuana Trafficking, Texas 2014

A massive marijuana trafficking operation in Texas has been brought to a close with the sentencing of Jaime Cisneros, a 50-year-old man from Roma.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Cisneros was found guilty of possessing with intent to distribute approximately 434 kilograms of marijuana.

The crime took place on March 19, 2014, when Cisneros directed his co-conspirators to conceal 43 bundles of marijuana in a brushy area in Fronton. Law enforcement approached the area and were able to seize 43 bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 434 kilograms.

In addition to the marijuana seized in Fronton, Cisneros had two previous convictions for drug trafficking, one in 2003 out of Corpus Christi.

The investigation leading to the charges was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and Border Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Rees prosecuted the case.

U.S. District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo handed Cisneros a 155-month sentence to be immediately followed by four years of supervised release. The judge also found that Cisneros was a manager or supervisor of the extensive drug trafficking organization, which increased his sentence.

Cisneros will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
