James Robert Porter, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Texas 2025
Tyler, Texas - Grimy Times reported that two East Texas men, James Robert Porter and Richard Lynn Sledge, were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in trafficking methamphetamine in Rusk County.
According to court information, Porter and Sledge sold large quantities of methamphetamine to another person in Henderson, Texas. On April 12, 2023, they sold 25.49 grams of methamphetamine for $350. Then, on June 7, 2023, Porter sold 51.2 grams of methamphetamine for $625. When Porter was arrested on July 10, 2024, agents recovered another 24.04 grams of methamphetamine from his vehicle and inside his business.
Porter, 47, of Henderson, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jeremy D. Kernodle on December 10, 2025, to 100 months in federal prison. Sledge, 67, of Athens, also pleaded guilty to the same charge and received a sentence of 30 months in federal prison.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Henderson Police Department, and Rusk County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lucas Machicek prosecuted the case.
