A Dallas man was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison on an obscenity conviction.
Jason Paul Roberts, 38, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in October 2013 to one count of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor.
Roberts will be required to register as a sex offender. He has been in custody since his arrest in September 2012 on a related federal indictment.
According to documents filed in the case, on September 29, 2012, Roberts emailed a sexually explicit photo depicting a partially nude male to a minor girl whom he knew was under the age of 16.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Garland Police Department investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Sparks prosecuted.
The case was brought to light after Roberts emailed the explicit photo to the minor girl, who was under the age of 16. The girl's age is not specified in the documents filed in the case.
