Jordy Alexander Amaya, Cocaine Trafficking, Texas 2024
In a shocking turn of events, a federal jury in Texas has convicted a U.S citizen and Mexico City resident of all counts of an indictment that charged him with trafficking cocaine from Mexico into the United States.
The defendant, Jordy Alexander Amaya, 27, approached the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on Sept. 16, 2024, in a vehicle that would change the course of his life forever. During an inspection of his vehicle, Customs and Border Protection officers discovered approximately 1.9 kilograms of cocaine.
Testimony during the trial revealed that Amaya had ties to a Texas-based drug trafficking organization (DTO) that distributes methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. Records also indicate that Amaya previously crossed into the U.S. in a known DTO vehicle in 2022 and 2023.
Amaya was indicted in October 2024 on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of conspiracy to import cocaine, and one count of importation of cocaine. He faces five to 40 years in federal prison on each of the four counts, as well as a fine of up to $5 million per count.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of law enforcement to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Warsame Galaydh and Tyler Fleming are prosecuting the case. U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas made the announcement.
Amaya's conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of law enforcement's efforts to combat it. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen what other charges may be brought against Amaya and his associates.
The people of Texas can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case. However, the war on drugs is far from over, and it will take continued vigilance and cooperation from law enforcement and the community to keep our streets safe.
Jordy Alexander Amaya's exact sentencing date has not been announced, but it is expected to take place in the coming months. In the meantime, he will remain in custody pending the outcome of his appeal.
