Lorenzo Ramirez, Assaulting an Officer, Texas 2024

HOUSTON, TX - In the ongoing efforts to secure the US borders, the Southern District of Texas has charged 215 people in the third week of June. Among them is Lorenzo Ramirez, a Mexican national, who allegedly assaulted a Border Patrol agent.

According to the charges, Ramirez, 38, of Mexico, was found near an abandoned vehicle after a failed smuggling event near Weslaco. When approached by a Border Patrol agent, he fled, leading to a foot chase. Law enforcement eventually caught him, but not before he punched and elbowed the agent in the thigh and head, respectively. He also allegedly kicked another agent in the leg. Authorities had to taser him to subdue him.

Ramirez faces a federal charge of assaulting an officer, punishable by up to eight years in prison. The incident occurred on June 13, 2024.

The case is part of the ongoing efforts to combat human smuggling and immigration-related crimes along the US-Mexico border. The Southern District of Texas has seen a significant increase in the number of cases related to immigration and border security.

Lorenzo Ramirez is currently in federal custody. If convicted, he will face the maximum sentence of eight years in prison.

The investigation into Ramirez's alleged crimes is ongoing, and more charges may be filed in the future.
