Michael David Thompson, Assault with Substantial Bodily Injury to Spouse, Nevada 2020
A federal jury delivered a guilty verdict for Michael David Thompson, 65, on May 20, in connection to an assault at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
According to court documents, Thompson repeatedly struck his wife's face and body on September 21, 2020, at the Boulder Beach Campground within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The assault caused significant injuries to the victim, including a broken nose, fractured left orbital bone, and large contusions to her face and left arm.
The case was investigated by the National Park Service, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Kent and Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Brister prosecuting the case.
Thompson faces a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He also faces a period of supervised release, restitution, and monetary penalties.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2021, before U.S. District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey.
Thompson, a resident of Boulder City, was found guilty of one count of felony assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a spouse or intimate partner.
