Preston Allen, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Texas 2025

A Lufkin felon is facing up to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a federal firearms violation in the Eastern District of Texas.

Preston Allen, 58, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christine L. Stetson on August 19, 2025.

According to information presented in court, on February 3, 2025, Allen was arrested at his Lufkin home after law enforcement officers arrived to execute a warrant. Upon arrival, deputies found Allen standing outside the home with an AR-15 style rifle. Allen was ordered to put the rifle on the ground and was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed Allen is a convicted felon and prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

Allen was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 2, 2025. The maximum sentence prescribed by Congress is 15 years in federal prison, although the sentencing will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at protecting communities from violent crime. The operation streamlines efforts and resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.

The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
