Roberto Martinez, Assaulting a Child, Texas 2021

A disturbing case of child abuse has come to an end with the sentencing of Roberto Martinez to federal prison. The 28-year-old man was handed down a 40-month prison term by Senior U.S. District Judge David Briones in El Paso, Texas.

According to court records, Roberto Martinez pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country on January 7, 2021. The assault occurred on November 1, 2019, when Martinez threatened the victim with a knife while inside the victim’s home on the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo reservation.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Tribal Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Kirk Mangels prosecuted the case.

As part of his sentence, Martinez will also be placed on supervised release for a period of three years after completing his prison term.
