Las Vegas Man Sentenced for Robbing Mail Carriers
In a brazen case of mail robbery, a Las Vegas resident has been sentenced to two years in prison for targeting two U.S. Postal Service mail carriers.
According to court documents, Rodolfo Rafael Rodriguez-Silva, 21, and another individual robbed a USPS mail carrier on January 18, 2020, while the mail carrier was delivering mail. The duo, both wearing ski masks, intimidated the mail carrier and stole mail from the USPS vehicle.
Just a week later, on January 25, 2020, Rodriguez-Silva accosted another USPS mail carrier in North Las Vegas, ordering the mail carrier to move to the side of the vehicle before an accomplice stole mail from the USPS vehicle.
Rodriguez-Silva pleaded guilty in November 2020 to two counts of robbery of mail, money, or property of the United States.
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware II sentenced Rodriguez-Silva to two years in prison, in addition to two years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly Frayn and Daniel Clarkson prosecuting the case.
Rodriguez-Silva's sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement in their efforts to protect mail carriers and the public from violent crime.
