Sean Patrick McIver, Possessing Child Pornography, Texas 2015

A Victoria man has been ordered to federal prison following his conviction of possession of child pornography.

Sean Patrick McIver, 28, entered a guilty plea on August 3, 2015 and was handed a 72-month-sentence by Senior U.S. District Judge John D. Rainey.

McIver was also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release following completion of his prison term, during which time he will have to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the Internet. He will also be ordered to register as a sex offender.

At the time of his plea, the court heard that agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) were able to successfully download various files containing child pornography from an IP address that was associated with McIver using peer-to-peer software. In December 2014, agents executed a search warrant at McIver's residence, at which time they seized various electronic devices. Forensic analysis on those devices revealed more than 450 images and 24 videos of child pornography. McIver admitted to using the peer-to-peer software to download the child pornography.

McIver was arrested on the federal charges in March 2015 and has been in custody since.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hugo R. Martinez and was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the federal government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
