Published February 15, 2024

A 65-year-old man from Huffman, Texas, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for his role in a disturbing child pornography case.

Steve Howie Nelson, 65, pleaded guilty on September 29, 2023, to receiving child pornography. U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison handed down the sentence on [no date given].

Nelson will also serve 10 years on supervised release following the completion of his prison term. During that time, he will be required to comply with numerous restrictions designed to limit his access to children and the internet.

The investigation revealed that Nelson had been viewing child pornography on a peer-to-peer platform. On February 22, 2019, authorities executed a search warrant at his Huffman residence and found more than 25 images of child pornography on his laptop.

The images depicted adult males sexually assaulting minor females between 10 and 14 years of age. Nelson will be required to register as a sex offender as a result of the conviction.

The FBI conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly Leo and Jay Hileman prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Nelson is currently in custody pending his transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility, which will be determined in the near future.
