Steven Nguyen, Narcotics and Weapons Distribution, Texas 2021
A 36-year-old Houston man has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for his role in a narcotics and weapons distribution ring, authorities announced.
Steven Nguyen, a 36-year-old Houston resident, pleaded guilty to wire fraud, possession of meth, and possession of a firearm by a felon on April 27, 2021.
U.S. District Judge Charles Eskridge ordered Nguyen to serve a 110-month sentence, to be immediately followed by four years of supervised release. The harsh sentence came after the judge heard additional information detailing Nguyen's long and disturbing criminal history.
The court heard that in October 2019, Nguyen used a victim's information to apply for a vehicle loan in Georgia, sparking a law enforcement investigation into his role in a mail theft ring operating in the Houston area.
On April 30, 2020, authorities searched Nguyen's residence and found approximately two kilograms of meth and 16 firearms, including several semi-automatic rifles equipped with military-grade optics.
The U.S. Postal Service and the Harris County Constable's Office, Precinct 5, conducted the investigation into Nguyen's crimes. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas Carter, Michael Day, and Matthew Peneguy prosecuted the case.
Nguyen will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
The lengthy prison sentence underscores the severity of Nguyen's crimes and serves as a warning to those involved in narcotics and weapons distribution rings.
Nguyen's case highlights the need for continued vigilance in the fight against narcotics and weapons trafficking.
