Steven Michael George, 45, of Belton, Missouri, is trading his freedom for three decades in federal prison. The sentence, handed down today by U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough, stems from George’s online distribution of child pornography between March and July of 2023. The feds found a digital hoard of depravity on his devices.
This wasn’t George’s first rodeo with this kind of filth. Court records show he’s already a convicted child molester in Missouri, with prior convictions for first-degree statutory sodomy and first-degree child molestation and prior CSAM possession. That history played a big role in the judge escalating the sentence.
Investigators say George used a peer-to-peer network to spread the images and videos. The search of his property uncovered a massive collection of additional CSAM. Beyond the 360-month sentence, George is on the hook for $36,000 in restitution to the victims depicted in the images.
When – and if – George ever gets out, he’ll be a registered sex offender for life, both federally and in Missouri. The investigation was a joint operation between the FBI and the Kansas City Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison D. Dunning prosecuting the case. It’s part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative.
