AMARILLO, TX – Cameron Nesbitt, 33, of Lancaster, California, is facing a lengthy federal sentence after a jury in Amarillo convicted him of hauling nearly 100 pounds of methamphetamine across state lines. The street value of the haul? Roughly $400,000.
The bust went down August 2, 2025, when a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper pulled over the vehicle Nesbitt was riding in for speeding in Oldham County. The trooper spotted red flags – the vehicle was a rental from California, and Nesbitt’s behavior raised suspicions. A search turned up the massive stash of meth.
Federal prosecutors presented evidence over two days, including testimony from DPS and DEA agents, and more than 40 exhibits detailing the trafficking operation. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Nesbitt was conspiring to distribute the drugs throughout North Texas.
“This defendant traveled in the Northern District of Texas with nearly a half-million dollars’ worth of methamphetamine in his vehicle,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould. “The astute work of DPS Troopers and DEA agents interrupted his plan to dump these dangerous drugs onto our streets, and the jury held him accountable.”
DEA Special Agent in Charge Joseph B. Tucker echoed Raybould’s sentiment, warning other traffickers that North Texas won’t be an easy route for moving drugs. Nesbitt’s sentencing date hasn’t been set yet, but he’s looking at a significant stretch in federal prison.
