Drug Kingpin Gets 19 Years: Mexican Cartel Link Exposed

Baldemar Navarro-Jaimes, a 36-year-old illegal Mexican alien, has been handed a 19-year sentence for leading a drug ring tied to the notorious Cartel La Familia Michoacana. The sentencing was a result of an intensive investigation by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Navarro-Jaimes was not just a dealer on the streets; he was a key figure in orchestrating the illegal flow of drugs and firearms. He was sentenced to 234 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The ICE investigation, codenamed Operation EEYORE, targeted a network operating under cartel leadership based in Michoacán, Mexico. Navarro-Jaimes’s role included coordinating the importation of large quantities of cocaine and other drugs into major cities across Texas, Illinois, New York, Georgia, and North Carolina.

HSI agents linked Navarro-Jaimes to nearly 9 kilograms of cocaine, over 23 kilograms of methamphetamine, and more than a dozen firearms. The ring also facilitated the illegal exportation of firearms to Mexico to arm cartel members.

Before his entry into the United States, Navarro-Jaimes had been a hitman for the cartel and served seven years in Mexican prison. His criminal activities resumed once he entered the U.S., eventually leading him to become a high-ranking figure within the drug ring.

This case is part of the broader Homeland Security Task Force initiative aimed at dismantling international criminal organizations. With significant assistance from DEA and local law enforcement, HSI Corpus Christi brought this operation to justice.
