Federal prosecutors announced today that a Vallejo man will spend the next 24 years and four months behind bars for sexually exploiting a minor.
John Robert Remlinger, 43, was sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to charges stemming from his exploitation of a child victim. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge William Alsup, includes a lifetime term of supervised release following his prison term.
According to court documents, Remlinger engaged in the sexual exploitation of a minor, a crime that carries severe federal penalties due to the vulnerability of the victims involved. The case was investigated by the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.
“This sentence reflects the seriousness of these offenses and the need to protect our children from sexual predators,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds. “The trauma inflicted on victims of child exploitation is devastating and long-lasting.”
Remleinger’s case was part of a broader federal initiative to combat child exploitation crimes, which have seen increased prosecution in recent years as technology has made such crimes more prevalent. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California has made child exploitation prosecutions a top priority.
Remlinger will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release and will face strict monitoring and restrictions as part of his supervised release term. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to a Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving his sentence.
