Conservative Boss McGuire Admits Stealing $16K

NEW YORK – Jason McGuire, 49, the longtime Chairman of the Livingston County Conservative Party (LCCP) and a key figure in the New York State Conservative Party (NYSCP), has admitted to pilfering over $16,000 in campaign donations for personal use. McGuire pleaded guilty today to two counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the Second Degree, class A misdemeanors, effectively confessing to a scheme to line his own pockets and deceive the public.

Attorney General Letitia James’ office exposed McGuire’s brazen theft after an investigation revealed he systematically transferred funds from the LCCP’s political committee into his personal account. The money, intended to support conservative candidates and causes, was instead spent on a lavish lifestyle – clothes, fancy restaurants, entertainment, fitness centers, and even beauty treatments for himself and his wife. McGuire then attempted to cover his tracks by filing false campaign finance reports with the New York State Board of Elections, concealing the illicit transfers.

“New Yorkers who donate their hard-earned money to political causes they support must be able to trust that their funds will be used as intended,” Attorney General James stated bluntly. “Our investigation revealed that Jason McGuire abused his position in the New York Conservative Party to line his own pockets with party funds and cover up his theft. I thank the Board of Elections for their support in this investigation as we protect the integrity of our elections.”

The scheme unfolded throughout 2020 and 2021, with McGuire, wielding check-writing authority, directly linking the LCCP accounts to a joint bank account he shared with his wife. A total of $16,706.26 was diverted, a blatant violation of New York election law which demands transparency in political spending. By failing to report these expenditures, McGuire actively worked to keep his self-serving actions hidden from both donors and election officials.

McGuire entered his guilty plea before Judge Thomas Moran in Livingston County Supreme Court. While the charges are misdemeanors, the case highlights a disturbing pattern of abuse within political organizations, where individuals entrusted with public funds prioritize personal gain over ethical conduct. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) credited the New York State Police for the initial criminal referral and the New York State Board of Elections for their crucial assistance throughout the investigation.

The investigation was led by Detectives David Buske and Christopher DiPasquale, under the supervision of Deputy Chief Juanita Bright, and involved a meticulous audit conducted by Auditor Daniel Dudley. Assistant Attorney General Susan H. Sadinsky is prosecuting the case under the direction of Public Integrity Bureau Chief Gerard Murphy and Deputy Chief Kiran Herr. This case serves as a stark reminder that those who exploit the political system for personal enrichment will be held accountable, no matter their position or political affiliation.
