Tyler Scheer, 26, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to 9 months in federal prison for his role in selling over $85,000 worth of high-grade marijuana in the Cedar Rapids area.
Scheer pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana on August 18, 2014. According to court documents, Scheer admitted to agreeing with others to sell marijuana in the Cedar Rapids area from August 2012 through April 2013.
During the course of the conspiracy, Scheer sold or possessed with intent to sell over 11 kilograms (over 24 pounds) of marijuana, valued at approximately $3,450 per pound. This amounts to over $85,000 worth of high-grade marijuana.
Scheer was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. In addition to the 9-month prison term, Scheer was fined $3,000 and ordered to pay a special assessment of $100. He will also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice. The DEA Task Force consists of the DEA, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies.
