Kenneth Gragg Sentenced

Kenneth Gragg, a 54-year-old man from Garrison, Iowa, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for selling methamphetamine from his rural Benton County home.

Gragg pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm as an unlawful drug user on December 2, 2013. As part of his plea agreement, Gragg admitted to selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant on two occasions in late 2012.

A search warrant was executed on Gragg’s home in January 2013, resulting in the seizure of additional quantities of methamphetamine, which Gragg admitted he had intended to distribute to others. A shotgun was also seized from Gragg’s residence, which he could not legally possess due to his status as an unlawful user of both methamphetamine and marijuana.

United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Gragg in Cedar Rapids to 46 months’ imprisonment and fined him $5,000. A special assessment of $200 was also imposed, and Gragg must serve a 3-year term of supervised release after his prison term.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Justin Lightfoot and investigated by the Rural Area Interdiction Detail (RAID) Task Force with assistance from the Tama County Sheriff’s Office. The RAID Task Force is comprised of officers from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office.

Gragg is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. Court file information is available at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl, with the case file number being 13-CR-59.

The sentencing of Kenneth Gragg serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine distribution in Iowa. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the federal court system is crucial in bringing those involved in such crimes to justice.
