Daniels Sentenced to 87 Months

Christopher J. Daniels, 30, of Colquitt, Georgia, has been sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for his role in cocaine trafficking and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia, Daniels pleaded guilty on March 25, 2013, to Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking. The sentence was handed down by the Honorable W. Louis Sands, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia, on June 27, 2013.

The case against Daniels began with a traffic stop for speeding, during which a drug detection canine alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of cocaine and a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun. Daniels admitted that both the cocaine and the handgun belonged to him, stating that he needed the gun to protect his drugs while traveling.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Leah E. McEwen.
