Augusta Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Possession

Joshua Harrison, 34, of Augusta, Maine, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to possession of child pornography, marking the culmination of a five-year investigation sparked by digital evidence in a monitored email account.

According to court records, federal agents uncovered child pornography tied to Harrison’s email in August 2015. Investigators traced the illicit material to an online footprint that led them to his residence in Augusta, where a search warrant was swiftly executed by federal and state law enforcement.

Agents seized Harrison’s laptop during the raid on his home. A second computer, previously pawned by the defendant, was retrieved from a local shop and added to the evidence chain. Forensic analysis of both devices uncovered multiple images of child pornography, confirming the severity of the charges.

Harrison admitted during the search that he obtained the material through email exchanges and a private messaging application. He further confessed to connecting with others in online chat rooms specifically to trade and access child pornography, exposing a calculated, ongoing pattern of criminal behavior.

The case, jointly investigated by U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and the Augusta Police Department, underscores the growing reach of cyber-facilitated sex crimes in rural jurisdictions.

Harrison now faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is pending the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office. Assistant United States Attorney Andrew McCormack is prosecuting the case.
