D.C. Felon Jailed for Stolen Glock

A D.C. man will spend two years in federal prison after a routine marijuana stop uncovered a stolen handgun. Charles General, 29, was sentenced today after admitting to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The bust originated from a plainclothes police encounter in a Southeast parking lot on October 13th, 2023.

Officers approached General and a group smoking weed, issuing a warning. A subsequent search revealed a loaded Glock 30S .45 caliber pistol tucked into General’s coat. The weapon was later traced back to a burglary at a gun shop in Springfield, Virginia.

This wasn’t General’s first run-in with gun laws. He’d previously been convicted of carrying a pistol without a license – a felony that legally barred him from owning any firearm. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The case was pursued under the “Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful” initiative, a program initially launched during the Trump administration focused on stricter gun crime penalties.
