Philadelphia streets breathed a little easier today as five men were convicted in federal court for a brutal carjacking spree that left two dead. Mikal McCracken, Amin Muse, Aleem Abdul-Hakim, Dean Fosque, and Kavon Coleman faced charges stemming from a reign of terror beginning in February 2022. The jury found them responsible for 29 carjackings, a wave of violence fueled by greed and disregard for human life.
The crew wasn’t after joyrides. Prosecutors detailed a calculated operation, proving the stolen vehicles were shipped overseas – funneled to buyers in Africa. The ringleaders, McCracken, Muse, and Abdul-Hakim, were directly linked to the execution of a former Marine during a February 2022 carjacking. They even attempted to silence a potential witness, demonstrating a cold willingness to obstruct justice.
McCracken, the most prolific of the group, faces charges for 20 additional carjackings, with victims shot in five of those incidents. One driver was targeted *twice*. Muse was tied to eight more robberies, Fosque admitted to nine, and Abdul-Hakim and Coleman each contributed to the escalating violence. Each incident was a gamble with someone’s life, and the crew profited from the risk.
The convictions, announced by US Attorney David Metcalf, bring an end to a nearly three-year investigation. Sentencing dates are pending, but with federal charges for murder and armed robbery, these men are facing decades behind bars. The city can finally start to heal from the scars left by this ruthless crew.
