Billings Man Gets 4 Years for Gunpoint Threat

⏱ 2 min read

Isaac Martinez, 38, is headed to federal prison for nearly four years. The Billings man terrorized a woman with a 9mm pistol during a May 24, 2025, fight, and now faces 46 months behind bars. The incident unfolded at their Billings residence, escalating into a terrifying threat that quickly drew a police response.

According to court records, the woman – identified only as Jane Doe – told Billings PD that Martinez had pressed the Taurus 9mm against her chest following a heated argument. He then allegedly stashed the weapon outside the home. When officers arrived, they found the gun exactly where Doe said it would be, along with a cache of 9mm ammunition, both loose and in boxes. Martinez’s fingerprints were all over the ammo.

This wasn’t Martinez’s first run-in with the law. Records show he was previously convicted of illegal firearm possession in Montana back in October 2021, making him a prohibited person under federal law. That prior conviction played a major role in the sentencing.

Martinez pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zeno Baucus prosecuted the case, with crucial investigative work done by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Billings Police Department. After his prison sentence, Martinez will face three years of supervised release.
