AMARILLO, TX – A California man is staring down a lengthy federal sentence after a jury in Amarillo convicted him of hauling nearly 100 pounds of methamphetamine through the Texas Panhandle. Cameron Nesbitt, 33, of Lancaster, CA, was found guilty of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute the drug, a stash worth an estimated $400,000 on the street.
The bust went down August 2, 2025, when a Texas DPS trooper clocked Nesbitt’s rental vehicle speeding in Oldham County. According to trial evidence, the trooper wasn’t buying the story and flagged the vehicle. A search turned up the massive meth haul hidden inside. Nesbitt was indicted in late August.
The two-day trial showcased testimony from multiple law enforcement officers and mountains of evidence. U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould highlighted the trooper’s sharp eyes and the DEA’s follow-up investigation as critical to the case. “This defendant traveled in the Northern District of Texas with nearly a half-million dollars’ worth of methamphetamine in his vehicle,” Raybould said after the verdict.
DEA Special Agent in Charge Joseph B. Tucker warned other would-be traffickers: “North Texas isn’t a free pass for moving poison across the country. We’ll bring the full force of federal law down on anyone trying to turn our communities into a drug pipeline.” The rental car origin in California suggests a West Coast source for the methamphetamine.
