Antlers Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Failing to Register

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA — A chilling reminder of the consequences of evading the law came as 42-year-old Peter Glenn Baker from Antlers, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced this grim development.

Baker’s charges stem from an investigation led by the United States Marshal Service. He was indicted in July 2014 for traveling across state lines and failing to comply with the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). The offense dates back to October 2013, when Baker, a registered sex offender following his December 2, 2004, felony conviction of Rape of a Child in the Third Degree in Washington State, deliberately sidestepped his legal obligations.

Judge Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Baker’s guilty plea and ordered the preparation of a presentence report. The sentencing hearing is set to occur after this crucial document has been finalized, with Baker currently in custody under the watchful eye of the United States Marshal Service.

Under federal law, Baker could be sentenced to up to 10 years imprisonment and face a financial penalty of $250,000 for his crime. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson represented the government in this case, ensuring that justice would be served on behalf of the victims and the community.

This case underscores the importance of adhering to the law, especially for those who have been convicted of heinous crimes like Baker’s. The public’s safety hinges on the strict enforcement of SORNA and other laws designed to keep sex offenders accountable.
