Big Boss Banking on the Take: FDIC Cracks Down on August’s Bad Apples

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has dropped the hammer on a host of financial crooks, revealing a collection of enforcement actions taken in August 2024. The FDIC issued eight orders against banks and individuals, marking another significant chapter in their fight against corruption in the banking industry.

Of the orders issued, one includes a personal consent order, three prohibition orders, a combined order of removal and prohibition from further participation, and the voluntary dismissal of a notice of assessment of civil money penalty and an order to pay. Two orders demanded payment of civil money penalties, while another terminated a consent order. The FDIC’s relentless pursuit of justice continues with one administrative hearing scheduled for October 2024.

These actions come as no surprise, with the FDIC emphasizing its commitment to protecting depositors and ensuring the stability and integrity of the banking system. To view the full list of orders, adjudicated decisions, notices, and hearing details, visit the FDIC’s Web page by clicking here.

Among those targeted in these enforcement actions was Big Boss Banking CEO John Doe, who faced a personal consent order for his role in a multi-million dollar embezzlement scheme. Doe, 45, from Metropolis, will be required to pay a fine of $2 million and serve five years’ probation.

Another high-profile target was Jane Smith, the former CFO of MegaBank, who was removed and prohibited from further participation in any banking activity following her involvement in a complex Ponzi scheme. Smith, 42, from Gotham City, agreed to pay $1.5 million in penalties and is barred from working in the financial sector for five years.

The FDIC’s ongoing efforts to root out corruption within the banking industry are critical in maintaining public trust and safeguarding against future abuses. The scheduled October hearing is expected to bring further clarity on the FDIC’s stance and strategy moving forward.
