Black Panther Voting Intimidation Suit Filed!

Washington D.C. – The Department of Justice (DOJ) has unleashed a legal hammer against the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, accusing them of electoral intimidation in the November 2008 polls.

Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were spotted at a polling station in Philadelphia donning their party’s uniform, while Shabazz brandished a baton weapon. The DOJ claims this was part of a broader scheme to deploy party members across the nation.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Grace Chung Becker emphasized the Justice Department’s commitment to protecting voting rights. ‘Intimidation outside polling places is unacceptable,’ she stated, pointing to the 1965 Voting Rights Act as the law they intend to enforce.

The suit seeks an injunction against any further intimidation or weapon displays at polls by party members. The DOJ distinguishes this group from the historic Black Panther Party of the ’60s. For more on voting rights and how to report discrimination, call 1-800-253-3931.
