Bronx Dealer’s Erie Coke Run Lands Him 4 Years

⏱ 2 min read

Jose Baez Cabrera, a 35-year-old career criminal hailing from the Bronx, is facing nearly four years in federal prison after a cocaine shipment traveling through Pennsylvania went south last August. Troopers and DEA agents intercepted Cabrera on August 16th, 2023, as he transported eight kilograms of coke toward Erie, destined for street-level dealers. This wasn’t a first offense; Cabrera was already on probation.

The bust adds another felony to Cabrera’s record. He was previously convicted in New York in 2021 for trafficking a kilogram of fentanyl. Apparently, a conviction didn’t deter him. The details of the interception, including the exact location and method of concealment, remain tight-lipped, but the Pennsylvania State Police and DEA clearly did their work.

Chief U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon handed down the 46-month sentence today. Cabrera will also face three years of supervised release…assuming he isn’t deported. His immigration status remains undisclosed, but removal proceedings are a possibility, authorities said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Haller led the prosecution, with U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti acknowledging the collaborative effort of the Pennsylvania State Police and the DEA. Standard procedure, but in this case, it resulted in a dealer off the streets – at least for a while.
