Adam Salgado Jr., 32, of West Haven, Connecticut, is headed to federal prison for six years after pleading guilty to possessing horrific images and videos of child sexual abuse. Salgado, a U.S. Army soldier, was sentenced today by Judge Victor Bolden in New Haven after investigators traced the abuse material back to his cloud storage account.
The bust started with multiple reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) from a cloud provider, flagging Salgado’s account. Investigators quickly discovered a pattern: Salgado routinely downloaded and deleted the encrypted messaging app Telegram – a known haven for the trade of this depraved content – to hide his tracks and connect with others sharing it.
Federal agents found Salgado had downloaded hundreds of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. He was arrested June 5, 2024, while stationed in Texas. He entered a guilty plea last November, admitting to receiving the illegal material.
Salgado, who was free on a $100,000 bond, must surrender to authorities on April 16th to begin his 72-month sentence. He’ll also face seven years of supervised release after he gets out. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) led the investigation, with crucial assistance from the Middletown Police and the Army Criminal Investigation Division.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel George prosecuted the case, part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national effort to combat child sexual abuse. Anyone with information about child exploitation is urged to report it to CyberTipline.com.
