CHARLESTON, WV – Robert Thomas, 30, of St. Albans, copped a plea today admitting he had a Glock .40-caliber pistol while already a convicted felon. The bust went down January 27th in the Jefferson area of Kanawha County.

Thomas knew the drill – federal law slams the door on firearms for anyone with a felony rap sheet. He’d already been convicted in Putnam County back in October 2019 for pushing drugs, a charge that cost him his right to own a gun. Apparently, he didn’t get the message.

He’s looking at a July 13, 2026 sentencing date and potentially 15 years in the cage, plus up to three years on supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Feds say this case is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a broad-stroke initiative aiming to take down cartels and clean up violent crime. The ATF, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and South Charleston Police all pitched in on the investigation.

Judge Joseph R. Goodwin presided, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Gabriel Price is handling the prosecution. Court records can be found on PACER under Case No. 2:25-cr-40.
