Wilmington police caught Ikeem McDole, 32, with a loaded handgun last month, despite a rap sheet that already barred him from owning any firearms. The bust went down near S. Harrison Street and Maryland Avenue after officers spotted his car running rough. McDole bolted when they tried to pull him over, but they took him into custody quickly.

A search of McDole revealed a Smith & Wesson tucked inside his jacket. Turns out, he wasn’t supposed to have a gun. Prior felony convictions meant he was legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. The Wilmington Police Department handed the case over to the feds.

McDole pleaded guilty to the federal charge of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm today. He’s looking at a potential 15-year stretch in prison, though sentencing guidelines could mean something less. Judge Maryellen Noreika will hand down the final sentence on July 21, 2026.

US Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace and ATF Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer announced the guilty plea. Assistant US Attorney Michelle Thurstlic-O’Neill is prosecuting the case. ATF and the Wilmington PD both chipped in on the investigation.
