It’s a wrap on the global LCD price-fixing ring! Four top execs have admitted to rigging prices and are set to serve time in the U.S. for their role in a massive TFT-LCD panel conspiracy.
The Justice Department dropped the hammer today, charging Chang Suk ‘C.S.’ Chung of LG Display and Chieng-Hon ‘Frank’ Lin, Chih-Chun ‘C.C.’ Liu, and Hsueh-Lung ‘Brian’ Lee from Chunghwa Picture Tubes with antitrust violations. They’re accused of manipulating prices from 2001 to 2006, a scheme that cost consumers billions.
Chung will get seven months behind bars and cough up $25k; Lin’s serving nine months for his role as CEO, paying $50k. Liu and Lee face shorter sentences but still have to shell out $30k and $20k respectively. This marks the first time Taiwanese nationals have faced prison in the U.S. for antitrust crimes.
The department is clear: No matter where they live or commit their crimes, all conspirators will be held accountable. Stay tuned as we follow this case’s twists and turns.
