COLUMBIA, SC – Laclarence Lamarcus Anderson, 43, is headed to federal prison for nearly 24 years after a jury found him guilty of flooding Columbia’s streets with guns and drugs. Anderson, a repeat offender, received a 297-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie.
The case unfolded after ATF agents and Richland County deputies caught Anderson selling firearms and narcotics to confidential informants over four deals in May and June. Among the weapons: a Glock pistol illegally modified with a switch, turning it into a fully automatic machinegun. Investigators linked two of the firearms Anderson peddled to shootings in nearby counties – one attempted murder, one fatal.
Anderson’s already lengthy rap sheet, including prior convictions for aggravated assault, armed robbery and multiple drug & gun charges, meant he was prohibited from owning any firearms at all. The feds didn’t mess around.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elle E. Klein prosecuted the case. There’s no parole in the federal system; Anderson will serve the full 24 years plus supervised release.
