Heather Nicole Thompson, 32, of Mobile, is headed to federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine ice distribution ring that flooded parts of southern Alabama with high-purity crystal meth. The conviction, handed down today in U.S. District Court, marks the end of a multi-agency crackdown targeting drug traffickers operating under the radar in the Mobile area.
Thompson pleaded guilty in September 2016 to two counts of distributing methamphetamine ice and one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute. Her admissions in court detailed direct involvement in multiple drug transactions, confirming her position as more than just a peripheral player—she was a distributor in a coordinated network.
U.S. District Judge Kristi K. Dubose wasted no time in delivering justice, sentencing Thompson to 87 months in federal prison on each count, with all terms running concurrently. The judge made it clear: participation in the trade of deadly narcotics carries steep consequences, especially when it fuels addiction and violence in local communities.
Upon completion of her sentence, Thompson will face three years of supervised release. During that time, she is required to submit to regular drug testing, undergo treatment for substance abuse, and pay a $300 special mandatory assessment. No fine was imposed, but the court emphasized that rehabilitation and accountability are non-negotiable.
The investigation that brought Thompson down was a joint effort between the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security. Their collaboration uncovered a pattern of distribution tied to interstate trafficking routes, pointing to broader networks feeding the region’s escalating meth crisis.
Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell, who prosecuted the case from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama, said the sentence sends a message: dealers will be hunted down, charged, and locked up. ‘This isn’t just about one conviction,’ Bedwell stated. ‘It’s about dismantling the supply chains that destroy lives.’
