Daniel Mireles-Reyna, a Mexican national with no legal status in the US, is facing a hefty federal sentence after a Christmas Day bust on the Natchez Trace Parkway near Tupelo, Mississippi. National Park Service Rangers found more than just holiday cheer – they found a loaded stolen handgun jammed in his pocket and two more firearms stashed in his car on December 26, 2025.
The search didn’t stop there. Cops also flagged possible narcotics in the vehicle, though details on those charges are still trickling in. But the guns were the primary heat. Mireles-Reyna had a Glock and a Draco 7.62, along with ammunition, all allegedly swiped before he hit the road.
Homeland Security Investigations quickly confirmed Mireles-Reyna entered the country illegally. Federal prosecutors are tying this case to “Operation Take Back America,” launched in 2020, which U.S. Attorney Scott Leary openly frames as a response to the “opened border” and a surge in related crime. It’s a tough-on-crime message, delivered with a side of border politics.
Mireles-Reyna is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date, and faces a maximum of 15 years behind bars. The feds are making it clear: carrying stolen guns while in the country illegally will come with a serious price tag.
