Gregory Francis Young, III, 27, is heading to federal prison for 54 months after a brazen display of firearm violence and a subsequent vehicle search. Back in March 2025, Young allegedly flashed a gun at people at a Davenport gas station. Cops caught up with him soon after, and a search of his ride turned up two loaded firearms stashed in the hood.
Young wasn’t exactly a choirboy. He was already on probation for a 2024 Scott County conviction – his third offense for cocaine possession. That prior rap sheet sealed his fate when feds hit him with the charge of being a felon in possession of firearms. The feds didn’t mess around.
The bust was the result of a joint effort from the Davenport Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. It’s all part of the Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Neighborhoods” initiative – a name for a program aimed at getting guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them.
After serving his 54-month sentence, Young will be under federal supervision for three years. No parole. Just straight to supervised release. U.S. Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing on March 12, 2026.
