New York – In a bold move, New York Attorney General Letitia James has called out the Trump administration, demanding the immediate release of over $200 million in crucial funding for the Gateway Program’s Hudson Tunnel project.
“The court’s order is now in effect, and the federal government must immediately release funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project,” AG James stated. “This administration never had the authority to freeze this funding, and it no longer has any excuse to delay.”
The battle over the funds began when AG James, alongside New Jersey Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport, sued the administration on February 3 over its monthslong freeze on all funding for the Hudson Tunnel project.
“We expect full compliance with the court’s order and the prompt delivery of the funds needed to keep workers on the job and this critical project moving forward,” James emphasized. The lawsuit alleges that the delay in funding is threatening the jobs of thousands of workers involved in the construction of the tunnel, which is vital for New York City’s infrastructure.
“The Hudson Tunnel Project is not just a piece of infrastructure; it’s an economic lifeline for our region,” added Davenport. “We cannot afford to see this project halted due to political games.”
The decision comes as the two states continue to push forward with legal actions against the administration, arguing that the delay in funding is a clear example of public corruption and a disregard for the rule of law.
