KANSAS CITY, MO – Steven Michael George, 45, of Belton, Missouri, will spend the next three decades behind bars after being sentenced to 360 months in federal prison today. U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough handed down the sentence for distributing child pornography and possessing a sickening cache of images and videos.

George, already a convicted sex offender with prior convictions for statutory sodomy and child molestation in Missouri, wasn’t just looking at this filth – he was actively sharing it online. Between March and July of 2023, investigators traced the distribution of CSAM (child sexual abuse material) back to George through a peer-to-peer file sharing network. A search of his devices uncovered even more depravity.

The sentence doesn’t stop at prison time. Judge Bough also ordered George to pay $36,000 in restitution to the victims depicted in the images and videos. And when he eventually gets out – if ever – George will be a registered sex offender for life, subject to both federal and state requirements.

The case was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison Dunning, with assistance from the FBI and the Kansas City Police Department. It’s part of the Department of Justice’s ‘Project Safe Childhood’ initiative, a national effort to track down and prosecute those who exploit children.
