Lynchburg Developers Hit $1M Restoration Tab for Water Violations

Construction heavyweights in Lynchburg face a staggering $1.3 million tab for violating the Clean Water Act during the Liberty Village development.

The five companies involved will pay a $300,000 penalty and fund over $1 million in restoration efforts for polluting U.S. waterways with silt and sediment from construction.

Allegedly, existing streams were buried and wetlands filled, leading to downstream impacts on aquatic life and water quality. The current owner has also committed to restoring the site’s ecological balance.

The decree, now open for public comment, mandates future deed notifications of the site’s restoration status. Details available at USDOJ Web site.
